For a third consecutive night Friday, thousands of protesters marched through cities across the U.S. against the recent killings of unarmed black men by white policemen.

Hundreds marched up New York City's 5th Avenue shopping district Friday. They entered an Apple computer store and the famed Macy's Department Store, waving signs saying "Black Lives Matter."

Demonstrators staged a so-called "die-in" in the streets near the U.S. capitol building in Washington before moving their protest downtown.

Students walked out of classrooms in Denver and marchers blocked a major street linking Miami with Miami Beach. Other marches were held in Chicago, Boston and New Orleans.

Earlier in the week, a New York grand jury declined to indict white police officer Daniel Pantaleo in the chokehold death of an unarmed black crime suspect, Eric Garner. Garner can be heard gasping "I can't breathe" as police held him on the ground.

Millions of Americans of all races were outraged last month when another grand jury in Furgeson, Missouri declined to indict policeman Darren Wilson for the shooting death of unarmed black teen, Michael Brown.

In Cleveland, Ohio,a police officer who reportedly had a poor performance record, gunned down a 12-year-old black boy in a public park as he waved what turned out to be a toy pistol.

Prosecutors in New York said Friday they will consider charges against another officer for the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man in November in a public housing stairwell.

New York says it will retrain its 20,000 police officers in how to handle suspects.

President Barack Obama has promised to address what he calls the "simmering mistrust" between police and minorities.

Also, U.N. special rapporteur on minority issues, Rita Izsak is calling for a review of policing in the United States. She said the two grand jury decisions "leave many with legitimate concerns relating to a pattern of impunity when the victims of excessive use of force come from African-American or other minority communities."
