Police in the Philippines say a truck slammed into the rear of a passenger bus early Saturday, triggering a sequence of accidents that killed at least 20 people and injured dozen of others.

Police say the truck (loaded with animal feed) collided with the bus while traveling downhill before striking six other vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.

Those killed were involved in the first collision. The cause is under investigation.

Road accidents are common in the Philippines, mainly because of reckless driving and poor road conditions.
