Florida police arrested the man they suspect set fire to a Florida mosque where Orlando nightclub shooter Omar Mateen worshipped.
Joseph Michael Schreiber, 32, was arrested without incident Wednesday in connection with the fire at the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce.
The case is being treated as a hate crime, meaning Schreiber could face 30 years in prison if convicted of the arson attack. Schreiber was previously sentenced to prison for theft on two separate occasions.
Schreiber, who is Jewish, had posted anti-Islamic material on social media. The material included a message posted in July stating that "all Islam is radical" and should be considered "terrorist and crimanals" (sic), written in capital letters with several misspellings.
No one was in the mosque when it was set ablaze Monday. The fire gutted much of the building.
Omar Mateen, who lived in Fort Pierce, killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in June in an hours-long assault before police raided it and killed him in a shootout. He was known to worship at the mosque. The shooting at the Pulse nightclub was the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
