The first ever Lao youth conference in the U.S was held last weekend in Seattle under the theme: Building Leaders, Developing Communities.
Two participants from the Washington, D.C. area -- Ms. Bounheng Inversin, President of the Lao-American Women Association of the metropolitan Washington area, and Miss Toulaphone Chittavoravong, a 15-year-old sophomore at West Springfield High School -- discussed the conference with VOA.
The conference was a collaborative effort of the Laotian Students Association of the University of Washington, the Laotian Youth and Family Services of Washington State, in partnership with the Seattle Community.
The goals and objectives of the conference were to: 1. Promote higher education 2. Provide tools and build leadership skills 3. Offer networking opportunities, and 4. Present the communities with resources.
