Lao Couple Beheaded in Thailand Was Victims of Separatist Violence

Thai authorities say a Lao couple found beheaded in Pattani province was victims of Muslim separatist violence. But since they were illegal laborers, their family will not receive any compensation accorded by Thai labor laws.

The young couple, Amkha and Kongmanee Douangmala, left Laos about two months ago to work on a Thai chicken farm.

Meanwhile, the Lao ambassador to Thailand says his embassy cannot do anything yet about the victims' bodies, pending official notification by the Thai government.
