Former U.S. astronaut, Marine and U.S. senator John Glenn died Thursday afternoon at a hospital in Columbus Ohio. He was 95. In 1962, Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth, one year after the Soviet Union put a man into orbit. He served in the U.S. Senate as a Democratic from Ohio for 24 years and ran for president in 1984. Glenn was the last surviving member of the first group of U.S. astronauts known as the Mercury 7. Zlatica Hoke reports.
